Mythology:
Aphrodite is an ancient Greek goddess associated with love, lust, beauty, pleasure, passion, and procreation.
She was syncretized with the Roman goddess Venus.
Aphrodite’s major symbols include myrtles, roses, doves, sparrows, and swans.
In Hesiod’s Theogony, Aphrodite is born off the coast of Cythera from the foam (aphrós) produced by Uranus’s genitals,
which his son Cronus had severed and thrown into the sea. In Homer’s Iliad, however, she is the daughter of Zeus and Dione.
In Greek mythology, Aphrodite was married to Hephaestus, the god of fire, blacksmiths, and metalworking.
Aphrodite was frequently unfaithful to him and had many lovers.
In the Odyssey, she is caught in the act of adultery with Ares, the god of war.
Aphrodite was also the surrogate mother and lover of the mortal shepherd Adonis, who was killed by a wild boar.
Along with Athena and Hera, Aphrodite was one of the three goddesses whose feud resulted at the beginning of the Trojan War
and she plays a major role throughout the Iliad. Aphrodite has been featured in Western art as a symbol
of female beauty and has appeared in numerous works of Western literature.

Astronomy:
Aphrodite (Venus) is the second planet from the Sun. It is named after the Greek and Roman goddess of love and beauty.
As the brightest natural object in Earth’s night sky after the Moon, Venus can cast shadows and can be visible to the naked eye
in broad daylight. Venus lies within Earth’s orbit, and so never appears to venture far from the Sun,
either set in the west just after dusk or rising in the east a little while before dawn.
Venus orbits the Sun every 224.7 Earth days. It has a synodic day length of 117 Earth days and a sidereal rotation period
of 243 Earth days.
As a consequence, it takes longer to rotate about an axis than any other planet in the Solar System,
and does so in the opposite direction to all but Uranus. This means the Sun rises in the west and sets in the east.
Venus does not have any moons, a distinction it shares only with Mercury among the planets in the Solar System.
